This infographic accompanied a story about the planning behind and design of a nuclear waste repository in Finland. It shows the vastness of the endeavor by zooming further and further in, from a map pinpointing thegeographic location to the individual fuel rods bathed in argon gas. A site worker is shown for a sense of scale. Features of the repository are pointed out at the different scales. The project’s many levels of organization can be understood in a way that photos could not fully capture.
