Beaver dams have the ability to restore streams that have become incised over time. But first, beavers must be attracted back to areas where that have become unfavorable to them. To do so, scientists get the ball rolling by building man-made stick dams that slowly resculpt the landscape and bring enough vegetation and water back for beavers to come back. Then the beavers can continue the dam building on their own. This illustration shows this process over time.
